Master of Arts in Educational Leadership

Shape the future of teaching and learning in this online Master of Arts in Educational Leadership program at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. This program prepares you to meet the challenges that come with being a passionate, innovative leader in education.

You'll expand your ability to manage change, develop colleagues' careers, use data to improve an organization and apply educational strategies for learners of all ages and backgrounds. If you are looking to become a Principal, Director of Special Education, or Superintendent in Minnesota, the completion of an education-related master's program allows you to enter the Saint Mary's Ed.S. in Educational Administration to complete coursework and field experience in preparation for licensure. If you are looking to become a K-12 public school administrator in another state, it is your responsibility to check with the administrative licensing body in your state for specific licensure preparation requirements.

Course Information

Designed to prepare educational professionals to become effective leaders and administrators, this program provides a strong foundation in leadership, management, and supervisory practice; educational strategies for learners of all ages; communication, creativity, and personal coaching skills; today's diversity issues; and current trends in ethics and law.

Applicants must submit:

  1. An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale. If your overall GPA is below 2.75, you may receive provisional status in the program at the discretion of the program director.
  3. The language proficiency to succeed in graduate-level classes.
  4. $25 non-refundable application fee: Note that Saint Mary's alumni, students seeking readmission, veterans, and active military personnel are exempt from this application fee.
  5. Official transcripts: An official transcript issued to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota from the institution posting the applicant’s completed bachelor degree and other relevant transcripts documenting program prerequisites and potential transfer credits must be sent separately and directly from your undergraduate institution in a sealed envelope. We don't accept transcripts that are scanned, emailed, or faxed.
  6. A written statement: Describe your previous educational experience, personal and professional strengths, and any other training you've had. Include any personal details you feel contribute to your application. Tell us how a Master's in Educational Leadership degree will help you reach your personal career goals.
  7. An up-to-date résumé: Include both your educational and professional experience.
