Program Overview

The history major provides fundamental liberal arts training which prepares students for any job that requires the skills of research, analysis, information management, writing, and speaking.

This major is especially recommended for students preparing for law school. The history major also equips students for jobs specifically related to the study of the past, including careers in education, museums and historic sites, archives and libraries, and as historians of corporations, agencies, and non-profit agencies.

This residential, four-year program is offered on our Winona Campus, with daytime classes and a full student life experience.

Course Information

Preparing students for diverse careers, this major included coursework in global history, U.S. history, culture, and historical research.

Applicants must submit:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Official high school transcript
  3. Official test scores - ACT, SAT, or Classic Learning tests are accepted.
  4. An essay or brief personal statement. In 250 words or fewer, please tell us about: a significant experience you've had, an accomplishment or risk you have taken, a person who has made a difference in your life, a topic of concern to you, or anything else you think would help us learn more about you. You can also choose to submit a graded paper or write something new!
  5. Letters of recommendation are optional.
  6. If you choose to upload a document, please make sure your file is either a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx), an RTF file, or a PDF file. Any other format (including Google Docs) will not load into your application.
