Program Overview

The study of physics includes fundamental principles that describe the behavior of the physical elements of life on earth - from mechanics, waves, electricity, and magnetism to atomic and nuclear physics.

The physics department endeavors to help students see the impact of scientific thought, methods, and discoveries on contemporary society. Through a strong emphasis on laboratory work, students develop the ability to interpret phenomena in light of existing theories.

Career Options

Graduates with a degree in physics may go on to careers in the fields of physics, astronomy, meteorology, the health sciences, or teaching.

Taking Classes

This residential, four-year program is offered on our Winona Campus, with daytime classes and a full student life experience.

Course Information

The coursework in this major prepares students for either graduate studies in engineering, electrical engineering and computer engineering, or for transferring to engineering school.

Applicants must submit:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Official high school transcript
  3. Official Test Scores - ACT, SAT, or Classic Learning tests are accepted.
  4. An Essay or brief personal statement. In 250 words or fewer, please tell us about: a significant experience you've had, an accomplishment or risk you have taken, a person who has made a difference in your life, a topic of concern to you, or anything else you think would help us learn more about you. You can also choose to submit a graded paper or write something new!
  5. Letters of Recommendation are optional.
  6. If you choose to upload a document, please make sure your file is either a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx), an RTF file, or a PDF file. Any other format (including Google Docs) will not load into your application.
